LECCE ARREDO – XXXVII National Fair of Art & Interior Design in Lecce, Italy
from May 9 to 12, 2025
Design and Art: A Mutual and strategic alchemy
Art enters the home. Home enters art.
Art and interior design share a symbiotic relationship by intertwining harmoniously. The key word is balance, or a sophisticated combination of shapes, colours, materials, and textures that can “dress up” space and enhance interiors with class and sophistication. Through a selection of two and three-dimensional works between figuration and abstraction, Primo Piano LivinGallery presents contemporary artworks by eighteen artists including national and international artists in two separate booths. The selection of works is curated by Dores Sacquegna.
As a tribute to the elegance of times past, on display are the prêt-à-porter picto-sculptures by Italian artist Fernando Spano, whose “Zero” pays homage to Greco-Roman simulacra with innovative techniques and materials. Papier-mâché is the material used in the “Vestal” series by American artist Christine Palamidessi whose female busts are inlaid with textiles and embroidery and give the works a timeless elegance. Seductive and imaginative are the paintings on metal in the “Suspensions” series by Italian artist Pierluca Cetera, on display with “The Psychologist,” which stages the nakedness of soul and body and questions the viewer about his or her own intimate desires. Also evocative are the works by Bosnian born and Austria based artist Nena Lang Cirkovic with “Girl in Gold,” the hyper-realistic faces in monochromatic drawings by African of São Tomé and Príncipe and UK based artist Frederico Lopes Dos Ramos, and again the self-portraits by Chinese born and UK based artist Jiayi Yu who uses the scanner as an extension of the skin and the pop-fictions by Thai artist Alice Bylittleelise. The search about identity and the human condition continues in the pictorial and photographic works by Luxembourg artist Margot Reding-Schroeder and in the caramel clichés by Belgian artist Gaka Mira with figures taken from urban or domestic settings and contextualized in cosmic landscapes by appealing to alienation. The female figure is the quest by American born and Swiss based artist Kohlene Hendrickson with her mixed media encaustic paintings. Nature is the theme inspired by four American born and based artists as Nicole Martinelli with digital floral compositions, Justine Giordano with minimalist landscapes, Belarusian born Yelena Lev with pictorial works related to the concepts of transition and metamorphosis, and Russian born Lark Pilinsky with landscapes with an impressionist touch on the cyclical nature. Characterized by intricate networks of lines and dynamic play, on display are the green-tinged abstract textures by American artist Sara McKenzie, the Quahog shell-inspired silhouette with pigments mixed with wax by American artist Dena Haden, the “Ephemeral” series of delicate blown-glass sculptures by Chinese born and UK based artist Yujie Yang, and the “Tracking” series of paintings suggesting four maps that homage the cosmology of the sacred snake, with pictorial interventions evoking the Malayalam language, produced in Kerala-India by Australian-Italian artist Virginia Ryan.
In addition to them are the recently added works of American artist Linda Colnett, French artist Sandra Detourbet, and Puerto Rican artist Rosa Cruz.
