LeoNilde Carabba was born on November 28, in 1938 in Monza, she lives and works in Milan, Italy. She is a traveler who loves to explore territories and cross borders. The basis of her philosophy is simple: life begins at any moment. The first solo exhibitions date back to 1961, supported by great artists such as L. Fontana, H. Chin, R. Crippa, E. Baj, Turcato, Tancredi, J. Fautrier, P. Manzoni, Christo and C. Accardi, her contemporaries . In the 1970s in Milan, during “Feminism”, she actively participated in exhibitions and conferences at the “Women’s Movement” and in 1975 she was co-founder of the “Women’s Bookstore”.
Her expressive research starts from a Jungian matrix and from interest in the symbol and spirituality. Her name – made up of a male root (Leo) and a female root (Nilde) – seals the “mystical marriage” between her person and her art. The first experiments with light began in 1966, through use of glass microspheres, phosphorescent and fluorescent colors, which return to the silence of the night and connect with the observer.
The works shown here, question the search for our “where” as a place of departure (The origin of time) or destination (Vita Aeterna). They appear as celestial bodies that reveal the mystery of the universe or the prenatal relationship between mother and fetus (Canto per Esther). Mandalas, labyrinths, pyramids are part of an alchemical vocabulary (Fire Grammar), in which human beings are destined to accept their destiny with joy (Orange). Since November 2015 she has been part of the International Black Light Paintings Group founded by Fabio Agrifoglio, President of the Mario Agrifoglio’s Foundation.
Last group show: 2020 – “Geo-Graphies: Identity rituals and fragile ecosystems”, curated by Dores Sacquegna, Fondazione Palmieri, Lecce
